Materials that are accepted at the site at Rothay Holme include:

• Scrap metal
• Wood
• Garden
• Fridges and other white goods (washing machines, ovens, freezers)
• Oil
• Cardboard
• Clothing
• Books
• Shoes
• DVD
• Gas Bottles, flammable only
• Car batteries
• Small appliances (hairdryers, irons, microwaves etc)
• Fluorescent tubes/energy saving light bulbs
• Plastics
• Small household batteries
• TVs and monitors
• Chemicals ie weedkiller (this must be reported to an attendant when brought on site)
• General household waste

Trade waste is not accepted

There is a permit scheme in operation at Ambleside recycling centre. This means that if you want to bring your household rubbish using a van or a twin axle trailer (up to 3m long) you will require a permit to do so.
