Temporary Waste Disposal Service for Millom

Cumbria County Council has introduced an emergency waste disposal solution in Millom after flooding issues have temporarily closed the town's Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC).

We are now able to provide temporary recycling facilities alongside the emergency general waste service.

The temporary arrangements will be available Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday until further notice, at the following times:

- the temporary residual waste facility will be available from 8am - 2pm (or until capacity is filled)

The emergency service will only accept any additional residual waste that your house generates - i.e. black bag rubbish

- the temporary recycling facilities will be available 8am - 4pm

Plastics, Glass Bottles & Jars, Paper & Cardboard, Textiles, Books, Mixed Wood

Please do not bring the following materials for disposal:

  • Electrical Items - white goods, small domestic appliances, batteries
  • Hazardous wastes - paint, oil, asbestos
  • Bulky waste items - e.g. sofas, mattresses, household items
  • Stone and rubble

The County Council will look to develop this temporary service in the medium-term so that it can accept additional waste streams. Keep checking the County Council's website at for the most up to date information as to what materials the site will accept.
