Materials that are accepted at the site at Barrow include:
- Scrap metal
- Wood
- Garden
- Hardcore and rubble/soil
- Oil
- Fridges and other white goods (freezers, ovens, washing machines etc)
- Gas bottles
- Cardboard
- Glass bottles and jars (clear, brown, green)
- Clothing/Shoes
- Books/DVD/Bric-a-Brac
- Batteries household
- Small appliances (hairdryers, microwaves, irons etc)
- Fluorescent tubes/energy saving light bulbs
- Car batteries
- TVs and monitors
- Plasterboard and gypsum (please telephone in advance to confirm that there is enough space for these items)
- Chemicals ie weedkiller (this must be reported to an attendant when brought on site)
- Asbestos(please telephone in advance to confirm that there is enough space for your asbestos waste)
- General household waste
Trade waste is not accepted at Project Furness HWRC.
There is a permit scheme in operation at Project Furness HWRC. This means that if you want to bring your household rubbish to Project Furness HWRC using a van or a twin axle trailer (up to 3m long) you will require a permit to do so. The Environment Agency is responsible for regulating the handling and disposal of hazardous and special waste and will provide information and advice.
