Resource Cumbria has this week launched a campaign to try and promote recycling facilities in the Cleator Moor area in aim to increase take up of Copeland's recycling services.
The two week campaign, which will kick off in the town on Monday 25 February, when all houses will receive a door-drop of recycling information packs and competition information, is being ran to to increase awareness of the kerbside recycling scheme and the area's recycle points, in the hope it will increase participation in recycling in the area.
The competition will see everyone who uses the kerbside recycling scheme given entry into a prize draw every time they use their black box as part of the kerbside recycling scheme, with the chance to win up a total of £1000 worth of vouchers to spend at the town's Cooperative supermarket.
Councillor Geoff Blackwell said, "I am delighted that we are able to promote recycling in Cleator Moor. Many people are aware of the reasons for recycling, and the ways that they can do it, but it is important we get this message out to as many more people as possible. I feel confident that by promoting our services, which we have worked hard to improve - particularly with the kerbside scheme, we can increase recycling in the area, and throughout Copeland."
A range of different events will be taking place during the fortnight to promote recycling ranging from a plastic bag amnesty at the Cooperative store, to recycling clinics at a range of locations and even fun sessions with schools and youth clubs to highlight the reasons for recycling in an enjoyable way - which involves smashing eggs!
Copeland Borough Council provides a kerbside recycling collection service of paper, glass bottles and jars and tin cans, and also provides other recycling points across the area, including the main site at the Cooperative store, where amongst other items, plastic bottles can be recycled.
Anyone in the area who does not have a black box, but would like one, can call Copeland Borough Council on 0845 054 8600, or email info@copeland.gov.uk to request delivery of one.
